DRY CLEANING SCRATCHCARD LANYARD

South London-based quartet Dry Cleaning captured our imagination last year with a string of excellent tracks from their respective EPs Sweet Princess and Boundary Road Snacks and Drinks. Now signed to legendary label 4AD (home to some greats back in the day including Cocteau Twins and more recently to TMR faves Adrianne Lenker, Aldous Harding & more), Dry Cleaning are teasing a forthcoming LP with their idiosyncratic new single 'Scratchcard Lanyard'. Standing out from their many post-punk inspired contemporaries, vocalist Florence Shaw's oddly relatable ramblings mimic the inner monologue of a busy mind. With lines, 'I've come to make a ceramic shoe and smash what you made' and 'It’ll be okay, I just need to be weird and hide for a bit and eat an old sandwich from my bag' serving as highlights, the band explain: “In the search for your true calling in life, it’s easy to try so many things that you end up confused,” Dry Cleaning said in a statement. “It can lead to an enormous build-up of frustration. You may fantasise about exacting revenge upon your real or imagined enemies. Ephemeral things and small-scale escapist experiences can provide some relief!” Check out the equally brilliant video directed by Rottingdean Bazaar here now. -Holly Mullineaux
